Gyumri Apartment Burglaries: Vanadzor Duo Identified, One Arrested
Gyumri, Shirak Province, September 2 – Law enforcement officials have identified and partially apprehended a group of individuals responsible for two apartment burglaries in Gyumri. Two men from Vanadzor have been implicated, with one currently under arrest and the other at large. A 37-year-old Gyumri resident has also been detained for aiding the perpetrators.
Details of the Burglaries
The first incident was reported on the evening of August 7, when an alarm was raised about a burglary at an apartment in the Sheram district of Gyumri. An operational group from the Shirak Regional Department of Criminal Police was dispatched to the scene. Investigations revealed that the theft occurred during the day when the residents were absent. The perpetrators gained entry using a master key and stole money and jewelry.
Later the same day, another similar report was received. At the same time, also taking advantage of the absence of residents, burglars used a master key to unlawfully enter an apartment on Gorky Street in Gyumri. From this residence, they stole 3,000 US dollars, 180,000 Armenian drams, and gold jewelry.
Investigation Leads to Vanadzor Suspects
Criminal proceedings were initiated in both cases by the Shirak Regional Investigative Department. Authorities quickly hypothesized that the same individuals were responsible for both burglaries, a theory that was confirmed in the following days.
Extensive operational-investigative measures undertaken by criminal police yielded reliable information: both apartment burglaries were carried out by two men residing in Vanadzor. Further intelligence indicated that a 37-year-old resident of Sheram Street in Gyumri had assisted them.
Arrests Made, One Suspect at Large
A decision was made to initiate public criminal prosecution against the two men from Vanadzor, aged 38 and 34. On August 20, officers from the Shirak Regional Investigative Department and the Shirak and Lori Regional Departments of Criminal Police conducted searches at the residences of the Vanadzor suspects. During these searches, specialized tools for opening doors and master keys were discovered.
On the same day, the 34-year-old Vanadzor resident was located and arrested on Lanjayin Street in Vanadzor. By court order, he was remanded into custody as a pre-trial measure. The 37-year-old Gyumri resident who aided in the crimes was also arrested on the same day and transferred to a detention facility.
The 38-year-old man, who directly committed the apartment burglaries, has been declared wanted. Measures are currently underway to locate the fugitive and recover the stolen property. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
