YEREVAN, Armenia – On January 11, 2020, two female residents of Yerevan were apprehended and brought to the Nor Nork police department on suspicion of extortion. The arrests were made possible through a joint operative-investigative effort by the Internal Security Department of the Police, the Criminal Investigation Department of the Yerevan City Police Department, and the Criminal Investigation Department of the Nor Nork Police Department.
Details of the Extortion Case
The arrested individuals have been identified as 26-year-old Tehmina Shahbazyan and 21-year-old Viktoria Damburajyan. They are suspected of extorting 1 million Armenian Dram (AMD) from Karen G., a 34-year-old resident of Yerevan, during the period from November 2019 to January 2020. Karen G. is reportedly employed as a deliveryman for an LLC operating in Yerevan.
The Threat and the Demand
According to sources, the women allegedly threatened Karen G. with the publication of information related to his personal life if he failed to pay the demanded sum. This threat formed the basis of the extortion scheme.

Following their apprehension, a personal search of Tehmina Shahbazyan revealed a portion of the extorted money. This evidence is crucial to the ongoing investigation.

A criminal case has been initiated by the Avan and Nor Nork Administrative Districts Investigation Department of the Yerevan City Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia. Both Tehmina Shahbazyan and Viktoria Damburajyan have been detained in connection with the case.
