The British Embassy in Yerevan has issued a statement on the occasion of the first anniversary of the peace summit held in Washington, mediated by former US President Donald Trump, and attended by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
UK Praises Leadership Towards Peace
According to “Armenpress,” the Embassy noted that it appreciates the political leadership demonstrated in taking a historic step towards peace. “Ensuring the continuity of this process through dialogue and cooperation is crucial for building a safe and prosperous region for future generations,” the statement said.
The Embassy also emphasized that the United Kingdom remains committed to supporting the establishment of stable and lasting peace.
Washington Agreements: A Year On
It is worth recalling that Armenia and Azerbaijan, mediated by the United States, signed a joint declaration in Washington on August 8, 2025. Following this, the leaders of both countries announced that peace had been established between Armenia and Azerbaijan. On the same day, Armenia and Azerbaijan also initialed a peace agreement in Washington.
The agreement, reached a year ago, marked a significant step in the long-standing conflict between the two nations. The UK’s statement underscores the international community’s continued interest in the full implementation and sustained adherence to these agreements.
