Yerevan patrol officers apprehended a driver on January 4, at approximately 10:40 PM, on Tamantsiner Street. The incident unfolded when an Opel vehicle was stopped for inspection, revealing that the 44-year-old driver was in an intoxicated state.

Forged Documents Presented to Officers

During the inspection, the driver presented a forged driver’s license. Furthermore, the man claimed to be an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ rescue service and subsequently produced a fake service identification card to corroborate his false claim.

Investigation Underway

The 44-year-old driver was arrested on reasonable suspicion of using forged documents and was transported to the Shengavit Department of the Community Police. The Opel vehicle was impounded and moved to a special storage area. Both the individual and the compiled documentation have been handed over to the investigative department for further proceedings.

Broader Context of Recent Events in Armenia

This incident occurs amidst a backdrop of various significant events in Armenia. Earlier on January 8, Prime Minister Pashinyan highlighted the role of the AB and solar energy as guarantors of energy sovereignty. He also discussed insurance matters with Avanesyan, stating he “turned off the TV out of fear.”

The government also approved a new strategy aiming for 3 million tourists, while Papoyan mentioned a new batch of Azerbaijani fuel that is cheaper by up to 100 drams. An electronic insurance registry has been created, and the schedule for 2026 gatherings for about a month towards the border was approved. The government canceled the deferment for six citizens, meaning students will be conscripted. Pashinyan clarified the essence of state finances, stating, “The budget is not a room full of money.”

Other news from January 8 included discussions on “patriots” and “God-worshippers” by profession, Pashinyan’s demand for brevity in writing, and the immediate and future impact of events in Iran on Armenia. The Ministry confirmed the import of a second batch of Azerbaijani oil products. The Prime Minister also had a farewell meeting with the US Ambassador to Armenia, whose recall was also a topic of discussion among the public, with some suggesting it was related to the exchange of state security for personal power.
