Zelensky: Ukraine’s Security Guarantees Document with US Ready for Finalization
Yerevan, January 9 – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced yesterday that a bilateral document on security guarantees for Ukraine is essentially ready for finalization at the highest level with the US President. Zelensky shared this information on his ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) account, following a report from Rustem Umerov regarding negotiation outcomes in France.
“Rustem Umerov reported on the results of our team’s negotiations in France yesterday. The bilateral document on security guarantees for Ukraine is now essentially ready for finalization at the highest level with the President of the United States,” Zelensky stated.
Negotiations Address Complex Issues
The Ukrainian President further noted that the discussions also addressed “complex issues from the basic framework for ending the war.” During these talks, the Ukrainian side presented possible options for finalizing this crucial document.
Zelensky added that upon returning to Kyiv, the Ukrainian negotiating team is expected to report on all the details of the meetings, providing a comprehensive overview of the progress made and the next steps in the process of securing these guarantees.
Context of Ukraine’s Security Needs
The push for security guarantees comes amidst ongoing geopolitical tensions and the continued conflict in Ukraine. Such bilateral documents are aimed at providing a framework for long-term security cooperation and support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The finalization of this document at the highest level with the US President would signify a significant step in solidifying international support for Ukraine’s defense capabilities and its future security architecture.
This development follows a series of diplomatic efforts by Ukraine to secure robust international backing and assurances from its key allies.
