Gyumri, March 25 – The official closing ceremony of the “Empowering Local Actors for Development in Shirak Province” (LEAD4Shirak) program was held in Gyumri. This initiative, launched in 2021, has become one of the key factors in revitalizing the community and economic life of the region.

LEAD4Shirak: A Successful Five-Year Journey

As reported by Armenpress, the event was attended by EU Ambassador Vasilis Maragos, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Arnak Avetisyan, and Shirak Governor Davit Arushanyan. In their speeches, they confirmed the program’s success, highlighting its role in creating strong foundations and a new culture of cooperation. Over five years, the program successfully united and implemented 132 business and community initiatives, with a total investment of approximately 766 million drams (AMD).

During the program’s implementation, three local action groups were formed in the region, which will continue their activities even after the official completion of the program. Several notable projects, which have already changed the face of the settlements, were highlighted as tangible results of the program. These include the rose greenhouse in the Nor Kyank community, the unique “-46” tourism initiative, and the sewing workshop in the Lanjik settlement, among others. It was emphasized that the support of European partners brought not only financial resources but also a new mindset, especially in the fields of business and tourism.

Governor Arushanyan Praises EU Support and Program Impact

Shirak Governor Davit Arushanyan noted, “There are many projects, I cannot list them separately, but their results are impressive and satisfying. I extend special thanks to the esteemed Ambassador; his presence and involvement in Shirak Province are significant. He not only brings his warm attitude but also fosters the formation of new connections, engaging partners who bring new projects and opportunities. Although the program is ending, it can confidently be considered successful. Most importantly, it has created a solid foundation for future initiatives.”

Tangible Outcomes and Future Prospects

The program’s visible achievements include diverse projects that have significantly impacted local communities. For instance, the rose greenhouse in Nor Kyank has introduced innovative agricultural practices, while the “-46” tourism initiative has boosted local tourism, attracting visitors and creating new economic opportunities. The sewing workshop in Lanjik has empowered local women and contributed to the local economy.

The formation of three local active groups ensures the sustainability of the program’s objectives beyond its official conclusion. These groups are expected to continue driving local development, leveraging the established networks and expertise gained over the past five years. The program’s emphasis on a new mindset in business and tourism is anticipated to have long-term positive effects on the region’s economic landscape.

Official Statements and Future Outlook

The presence of high-ranking officials such as EU Ambassador Vasilis Maragos and Deputy Minister Arnak Avetisyan underscored the significance of the LEAD4Shirak program. Their endorsement of the program’s success and its lasting impact on Shirak Province reinforces the importance of international cooperation in regional development.

The program’s success is a testament to the collaborative efforts of local communities, businesses, and international partners. The substantial investment of AMD 766 million has not only funded numerous initiatives but also cultivated a spirit of entrepreneurship and community engagement. This foundational work is expected to pave the way for further development and prosperity in Shirak Province.
