Two More Arrested in Gyumri Incident Investigation

Gyumri, Shirak Province, Armenia, April 30 – The Shirak Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia has announced the arrest of two more individuals in connection with the criminal case initiated regarding the incident in Gyumri. The case, which involves the assault on elderly men during a car rally organized by the political opposition on Yerevan Highway in Gyumri, has now led to a total of seven arrests.

Investigation Uncovers Full Details of the Assault

As a result of investigative and other procedural actions carried out within the framework of the criminal case, as well as necessary measures undertaken in cooperation with the employees of the Police of the Republic of Armenia, the incident of violence against elderly men on Yerevan Highway in Gyumri has been fully revealed. The Investigative Committee informed NEWS.am about these developments.

Identities of Suspects Revealed

The identities of two more young men who committed violence against the aforementioned men have been established. One of them is Velikhan Khlghatyan, a resident of Yerevan, born in 1999, and the other is Gevorg Muradyan, a resident of Kotayk Province, also born in 1999. Both individuals have been arrested.

Previous Reports and Victim Details

Earlier, the Investigative Committee reported that on May 8, 2022, a group of young men, after getting out of a car, approached elderly men standing at a public transport stop on Yerevan Highway in Gyumri and began to hit them on various parts of their bodies. It was revealed that the men who suffered from the criminal actions of the aforementioned young men were citizens aged 74, 56, 72, and 84.

Seven Individuals Facing Criminal Charges

As of now, criminal prosecution is being carried out against seven individuals in connection with this criminal case. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.

Note: A person suspected or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia by a court verdict that has entered into legal force.
