GYUMRI, Shirak Province, Armenia – Law enforcement authorities in Gyumri have successfully uncovered an illegal workshop engaged in the production and bottling of counterfeit alcoholic beverages. The operation, conducted by officers of the Shirak Regional Department of the Criminal Police, followed an operational intelligence report indicating illicit activities at a private residence.

Details of the Discovery

The intelligence report suggested that a 33-year-old resident of Gyumri was illegally manufacturing, bottling, and distributing various types of vodka. Upon verifying the information, a criminal proceeding was initiated.

During a subsequent inspection of the 33-year-old’s home, located on Hovsepyan Street, authorities discovered:

  • 244 bottles of counterfeit vodka of various capacities.
  • Equipment for producing and bottling vodka.
  • 314 empty bottles.

The collected documents and evidence have been forwarded to the Shirak Regional Investigative Department for further proceedings.

Law Enforcement’s Warning

The Ministry of Internal Affairs Police urged citizens to refrain from illegal entrepreneurial activities, emphasizing that such actions are criminally punishable and can endanger public health. Law enforcement agencies are committed to consistently working towards identifying and preventing similar cases.

Broader Context of Illicit Production

This incident is not isolated, as previous reports from the region highlight ongoing issues with illegal alcohol production:

  • On December 26, 2024, a 63-year-old man and his 31-year-old accomplice from Gyumri were reported to be producing and selling fake vodka.
  • On December 20, 2024, another criminal proceeding was initiated regarding the illegal home production and sale of vodka, cognac, and colored beverages.

These cases underscore a persistent problem of illicit alcohol manufacturing in the region, posing significant risks to consumers and legitimate businesses.
