Former Yerevan City Hall Official Accused of Illegal Land Allocation
Yerevan, August 5 – A former official from the Yerevan City Hall’s Department of Architecture and Urban Development is facing charges for abuse of power in connection with illegal land allocations that occurred between 2010 and 2018. The Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia initiated criminal proceedings, which have revealed significant damage to state interests.
The preliminary investigation determined that the former official, while holding the position, illegally facilitated the change in functional purpose of a 2500 square meter plot of land in Yerevan. To illegally alienate this land to the son of the Deputy Mayor, the official drafted and submitted false data to the Mayor.
Furthermore, the official issued a fraudulent conclusion regarding a building constructed by an LLC on the territory of Students’ Park. This was done to register the ownership rights of the real beneficiary of the LLC – the wife of the head of the security detail of the 3rd President of Armenia – over a portion of the land occupied by a restaurant complex. Contrary to the norms established by the Land Code of the Republic of Armenia, the land was illegally alienated to the aforementioned company for more than 24 million drams, causing substantial damage to the community’s rights and legitimate interests.
During the preliminary investigation, charges were brought against the former official of the Yerevan City Hall. The preliminary investigation in the criminal proceedings has been completed.
