Armenia to Construct or Renovate 40 Bridges by 2030
Yerevan, August 15 – The Armenian government plans to construct or renovate approximately 40 bridges between 2026 and 2031. This announcement was made by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a visit to inspect the completed renovation of the Kievyan Bridge in Yerevan, which finished two weeks ahead of schedule.
The Kievyan Bridge, a critical infrastructure component, last underwent major repairs in July-August 1995, primarily to address drainage issues. Those renovations came with a 20-year warranty.
Details of the Kievyan Bridge Renovation
Officials responsible for the project reported to the Prime Minister that the recent renovation involved several key improvements:
- Restoration of deformation joints.
- Repair and installation of new drainage and waterproofing systems.
- Installation of new galvanized barriers.
- Relocation of electrical cables from lighting poles to manholes beneath the pavement.
- Application of a new asphalt concrete top layer.
- Asphalting of sidewalks on both sides.
- Road marking works.
A notable innovation in this project was the use of a special polymer-concrete material in the deformation joints, marking its first application in Armenia. This material is designed to minimize impacts and vibrations from passing vehicles, enhancing bridge operational safety and improving traffic comfort. Work on strengthening and restoring damaged sections of the bridge’s arch and supports, along with other planned tasks, will continue until the end of the year without disrupting traffic flow.
