Yerevan, September 3 – Gagik Beglaryan, the former Mayor of Yerevan and former Minister of Transport and Communication, will remain in custody for an additional two months. This decision was announced by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia to Sputnik Armenia. The ruling was issued by Judge Tigran Davtyan of the Anti-Corruption Court.

Beglaryan Held at National Security Service Detention Center

Beglaryan is currently being held at the National Security Service (NSS) detention center. This extension follows a previous decision in July of this year, when the pre-investigation body submitted a motion to the court, and Judge Aram Grigoryan of the Anti-Corruption Court extended Beglaryan’s detention by two months.

Charges of Abuse of Power and Money Laundering

Gagik Beglaryan is accused of abuse of official powers and money laundering on a particularly large scale. In 2025, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia filed a lawsuit with the Anti-Corruption Court to confiscate 76.8 million drams from Beglaryan. The court fully satisfied the claim.

Recent Developments in Armenian Justice System

This development comes amidst a series of other notable legal proceedings in Armenia. Earlier this week, a criminal case was initiated regarding the activities of the “88” supermarket chain. The decision on the pre-trial measure for Gagik Tsarukyan, leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party, is expected on September 4th. Additionally, the causes of poisoning recorded after a reception at the French Embassy have been identified.

Energy and Political Landscape

In other news, Unit 2 of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP) has been restarted and connected to the unified energy system of Armenia after successful completion of planned preventive repair works on September 1st. Vahagn Chakhalian, founder of the “Will” socio-political initiative, is expected to be released after September 4th, with a new pre-trial measure applied.

The political discourse remains active, with discussions surrounding Armenia’s geopolitical alignment. State Duma deputy Kolesnik stated that Armenia should not turn away from Russia, otherwise it will be “swallowed up.” Sharmazanov commented that the current government is trying to turn Armenia into a “gladiator,” while Ruben Mkhitaryan suggested that Pashinyan is trying to keep the people in a “drive” through shows. Levon Kocharyan criticized Pashinyan, asking, “Who are you to decide how one should live?”

Economic and Social Issues

Iveta Tonoyan reported job cuts in companies transferred to the state from Tsarukyan. Bercy noted that the geopolitical center of gravity in Europe is shifting through Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Turkey. Ara Abrahamyan demanded the release of Tsarukyan and other opposition figures. Pashinyan stated that the presence of the 102nd military base in Armenia is not a vital necessity. Businessman Narek Nalbandyan was said to be annoying Pashinyan. Furthermore, 17 wagon-cisterns of diesel fuel were sent from Azerbaijan to Armenia.

Putin mentioned that small Russian nuclear power plants have no analogues in the world. Anna Hakobyan’s project in the government addresses domestic violence, stating, “Why should the victim of violence go, and the abuser stay?”
