Yerevan, September 3 – Gagik Beglaryan, the former Mayor of Yerevan and former Minister of Transport and Communication, will remain in custody for an additional two months. This decision was announced by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia to Sputnik Armenia. The ruling was issued by Judge Tigran Davtyan of the Anti-Corruption Court.
Beglaryan Held at National Security Service Detention Center
Beglaryan is currently being held at the National Security Service (NSS) detention center. This extension follows a previous decision in July of this year, when the pre-investigation body submitted a motion to the court, and Judge Aram Grigoryan of the Anti-Corruption Court extended Beglaryan’s detention by two months.
Charges of Abuse of Power and Money Laundering
Gagik Beglaryan is accused of abuse of official powers and money laundering on a particularly large scale. In 2025, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia filed a lawsuit with the Anti-Corruption Court to confiscate 76.8 million drams from Beglaryan. The court fully satisfied the claim.

This development comes amidst a series of other notable legal proceedings in Armenia. Earlier this week, a criminal case was initiated regarding the activities of the “88” supermarket chain. The decision on the pre-trial measure for Gagik Tsarukyan, leader of the Prosperous Armenia Party, is expected on September 4th.
