Wizz Air Expands Operations in Yerevan with Fourth Aircraft and New Routes
Yerevan, September 8, 2026 – Wizz Air, the Hungarian low-cost airline, announced today its plans to significantly expand its operations in Armenia. The airline will base a fourth aircraft at Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan this December, concurrently launching three new direct routes and increasing the frequency of two existing services. The announcement was made by Jan Malin, Wizz Air’s Chief Commercial Officer, during a press conference on September 8, 2026.
New Destinations and Increased Frequencies
Starting December 18, flights from Yerevan to Basel will operate three times a week, while services to Varna will run twice a week. Direct flights to Valencia are scheduled to commence on June 6, 2027.
In addition to these new routes, Wizz Air will increase the frequency of two of its current routes. From December 17, the number of Yerevan-Prague flights will increase to five times a week, and Yerevan-Memmingen flights will operate four times a week.
Following this expansion, Wizz Air’s network in Armenia will comprise 21 routes. The airline also projects the creation of 40 new jobs at its Yerevan base.
Economic Impact and Future Prospects
According to Malin, the increased flight capacity is expected to contribute to a rise in tourist arrivals in Armenia, stimulate job creation within the tourism sector, and boost tax revenues for the country.
Wizz Air is also exploring the possibility of launching flights from Armenia to Georgia and Kazakhstan. However, these routes are currently facing permit-related challenges.
The airline forecasts that approximately 700,000 passengers will be served in Armenia by 2026.
