Armenian Foreign Ministry Leadership and Diplomatic Heads Convene in Gyumri for Post-Election Workshop
Gyumri, August 28, 2026 – A significant workshop for the leadership of Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) and the heads of Armenian diplomatic missions abroad took place in Gyumri. This year’s gathering was particularly notable due to two key circumstances, as stated by Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan in his opening remarks.
Mirzoyan highlighted that the workshop is being held following parliamentary elections and under new realities. He emphasized the continuity of Armenia’s foreign policy, focusing on the consistent formation of a peaceful and cooperative environment around Armenia, the further institutionalization of peace, and the development of partnerships.
Addressing the second distinctive feature, the Minister underscored the importance of promoting international trade ties within the partnership agenda. This emphasis aligns with the Ministry’s newly expanded functions.
Key Addresses and Discussions on Foreign Policy Priorities
According to the MFA press service, messages were delivered by President Vahagn Khachaturyan and National Assembly Speaker Ruben Rubinyan. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also delivered a speech, addressing the foreign policy priorities outlined in the Government’s program and the crucial role of the MFA and Armenia’s diplomatic missions abroad in their implementation.
Pashinyan noted that the change in the Ministry’s name to the ‘Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade’ is based on a clear concept. This concept aims to ensure concrete results and increase welfare through the promotion of an economic component in foreign policy.
Following the Prime Minister’s speech, a discussion ensued, during which Pashinyan answered questions from the ambassadors. Members of the National Assembly and the Government were also present at the start of the workshop.
This workshop serves as a critical platform for strategic alignment and coordination among Armenia’s diplomatic corps, ensuring a unified approach to the nation’s foreign policy objectives in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
