Criminal Group Stealing from Cars and Extorting in Yerevan Exposed

Yerevan, August 5 – A criminal group engaged in stealing from cars and extortion in Yerevan has been exposed. The Mashots community police, through operational measures, identified and apprehended two young men, aged 20 and 21, on the night of July 17. They were found in their ‘Tesla’ car on Mazmanyan Street and subsequently taken to the police department.

The two individuals confessed to their actions carried out the previous night.

Details of the Operations

In one instance, the young men stole side mirror glasses from a ‘Mercedes’ parked on Bashinjaghyan Street in the capital and left a Telegram address on the car. They also affixed a link to the same address on the windshield of a ‘Range Rover’ after stealing its foreign license plate. When the car owner contacted them, the perpetrators demanded 40,000 drams for the return of the license plate.

Legal Proceedings and Arrests

The young men and the compiled documents were submitted to the investigative department, where criminal proceedings were initiated. The 20-year-old suspect was placed under house arrest, while the 21-year-old was arrested and transferred to a correctional facility.

The circumstances of the case are currently being clarified.
