YEREVAN, April 15 – A 62-year-old man was arrested yesterday, April 14, in Yerevan for attempting to rob a bank on Bagratunyats Avenue. The suspect reportedly threatened a bank employee with a knife, demanding money.
Swift Police Response Leads to Arrest
The incident unfolded around 2:40 PM on April 14, when the 112 operational management center received an alarm regarding a citizen threatening a bank employee with a knife at a branch on Bagratunyats Avenue. Shengavit police officers from the Community Police Department promptly arrived at the scene.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officials located and apprehended the 62-year-old Yerevan resident on suspicion of robbery. He was subsequently taken to the police department for further questioning.
Suspect Confesses to Attempted Robbery
Through explanatory work conducted by the community police, the man confessed to demanding money from the bank employee under threat of a knife. The weapon used in the attempted robbery, a knife, was also recovered by the police.
The 62-year-old suspect and the compiled documents have been submitted to the pre-investigation body, and the circumstances surrounding the incident are currently being clarified.
