PM Pashinyan Encourages Pensioners to Travel with Saved Medication Funds

Yerevan, April 23, 2026 – Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has made a public call to pensioners, encouraging them to utilize the money saved on medication for travel. The Prime Minister conveyed this message during a live broadcast on Facebook, referencing his earlier statement concerning the ‘Gyumri-Larnaca’ route.

Pashinyan stated, ‘With all seriousness, I want to call on our pensioners to put aside the money for medicines and take advantage of the opportunity to start traveling during the upcoming summer or autumn.’ This initiative builds upon the success of the ‘Gyumri-Larnaca’ flight route, which has made international travel more accessible.

Healthcare Reforms Free Up Funds for Travel

The Prime Minister highlighted feedback from numerous pensioners who reported significant savings due to recent healthcare reforms. ‘Many pensioners tell us that they used to spend 30-40 thousand on medicines, but now, under health insurance conditions, the money remains in our pockets,’ Pashinyan explained. This reduction in out-of-pocket medical expenses, combined with increased pensions, creates a financial opportunity for retirees to explore new destinations.

He further elaborated on the affordability of travel options, suggesting that the saved funds could be used to purchase low-cost airline tickets. ‘So, also under the conditions of increased pensions, it is possible to purchase 3, 5, 10 euro tickets and spend the money previously spent on medicines on daily expenses,’ he added, emphasizing the potential for affordable travel experiences.

The ‘Gyumri-Larnaca’ Initiative and Its Impact

The Prime Minister’s remarks underscore the government’s efforts to improve the quality of life for Armenian citizens, particularly its elderly population. By making healthcare more affordable and promoting accessible travel, the administration aims to enhance the overall well-being and recreational opportunities for pensioners.

The ‘Gyumri-Larnaca’ route, which Pashinyan previously announced, has been instrumental in providing cost-effective travel options. This initiative aligns with the broader vision of fostering a more vibrant and connected society, where citizens can enjoy their retirement years with greater freedom and new experiences.

The call to action from Prime Minister Pashinyan signifies a shift in focus towards encouraging active and fulfilling lifestyles for Armenia’s senior citizens, leveraging the benefits of recent policy changes to promote both economic stability and personal enrichment.
