11-Year-Old Girl Hospitalized After School Assault in Yerevan

Yerevan, March 18, 2026 – An 11-year-old girl from Yerevan was hospitalized on March 12, 2026, after an alleged assault at a local school. The incident, which occurred around 7:55 PM, was reported to the Malatia Police Department of the General Department of Community Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.

Details of the Incident

According to Shamshyan.com, the 11-year-old, identified as H. E., a resident of Yerevan, was taken to the “Surb Astvatsamayr” Medical Center for treatment, accompanied by her parent, following injuries sustained from an assault.

The girl’s mother, 38-year-old M. M., also a resident of Yerevan, informed officers at the Malatia Police Department that her daughter had a verbal disagreement with a classmate, D. D., at the school around 12:30 PM on the same day. The classmate then allegedly struck her daughter multiple times with her hands and feet on various parts of her body. As a result, the victim sustained bruises on her abdomen and knees.

Investigation Underway

Following the incident, documents were compiled by the Malatia Police Department and subsequently transferred to the Malatia-Sebastia Administrative District Investigation Department of the Yerevan City Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia. An official investigation has been launched to determine the full circumstances surrounding the assault.

The incident highlights concerns regarding student safety and conflict resolution within educational institutions. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough inquiry to ensure appropriate measures are taken.

This event comes amidst other recent news from Yerevan, including the discovery of a man’s body in a water pipeline in Malatia and a zebra escaping from the zoo onto Myasnikyan Avenue. Additionally, there have been reports of an accident involving the “Nubarashen-Arin-Berd” water pipeline, leading to a 21-hour water supply interruption in parts of Yerevan and Ararat Province. French President Macron is also expected to visit Armenia with his wife, and a Security Council meeting has taken place. Another tragic incident involved a 1-year-old child who died from beatings, though the biological mother has not been charged.

The public awaits further updates on the investigation into the school assault and the measures that will be implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future.
