Yerevan, August 8, 2026 – A tragic incident unfolded in Yerevan today, as a man’s body was discovered under the Kievyan Bridge. The alarm was raised around 9:30 PM, when the Mashtots Department of the Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia received an operational report about a body found at the location.
Police and Investigative Teams Respond to the Scene
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, an operational group from the Mashtots Police Department, led by Head of Department Davit Avagyan and Deputy Head Gevorg Poghosyan, arrived promptly at the scene. They were joined by patrols from the 1st Company of the 3rd Battalion of the Patrol Service Regiment of the Yerevan City Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, under the command of Regiment Commander Andranik Khachatryan, Battalion Commander Arsen Sargsyan, Deputy Battalion Commander Davit Hovhannisyan, and Company Commander Gevorg Torosyan.
The area was immediately cordoned off by Deputy Company Commander Hayk Sirekanyan and patrol officer Onik Arakelyan to secure the scene and facilitate investigation.
Confirmation of Death and Ongoing Investigation
Upon arrival, it was confirmed that the operational information was accurate: the body of a man had been found. A team of emergency doctors from ‘103’ ambulance service, who arrived swiftly, pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Information regarding the incident was forwarded from the Mashtots Police Department to the Investigative Department of Ajapnyak and Davtashen administrative districts of the Yerevan City Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia. An investigative team, led by Department Head Edgar Baloyan and the duty investigator, arrived to commence proceedings.
A criminal case has been initiated by the investigative department based on the incident, and efforts are underway to identify the deceased man. Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
