Yerevan, September 6 – The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has officially stated that the issue of recognizing Somaliland’s independence is not currently on Armenia’s foreign policy agenda. This clarification was provided in response to an inquiry from Sputnik Armenia.

The statement from the Ministry comes after prominent American analyst Michael Rubin, in an article for “The Armenian Mirror-Spectator,” called on Armenia to recognize Somaliland. Rubin argued that both Armenia and Somaliland face hostile actions from Turkey, which he claims supports Azerbaijan’s aggression against Armenia and undermines Somaliland’s sovereignty.

Rubin suggested that recognition would create common ground with Israel, which has recognized Somaliland’s independence. He further posited that this move could prompt Israeli strategists to reconsider their alliance with Azerbaijan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, recently renamed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, has consistently focused on promoting international trade ties as part of its new functions.
